RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation)
Meaning
RAC stands for Reservation Against Cancellation, a system used in Indian Railways that allows a passenger to travel with a partially confirmed ticket. It ensures a seat but not necessarily a full berth unless cancellations occur.
How RAC Works
- If no confirmed berths are available, RAC tickets are issued.
- RAC passengers get a shared seat (usually a side lower berth).
- If confirmed ticket holders cancel, RAC passengers are allotted full berths based on priority.
- Unlike Waitlisted (WL) tickets, RAC ticket holders are allowed to board the train.
Example Scenario
- If your ticket status is RAC 5, it means you are 5th in line for a full berth if cancellations happen.
Key Points
- RAC ensures a seat but not necessarily a full berth.
- RAC tickets get confirmed if passengers with confirmed tickets cancel.
- Unlike waitlisted tickets, RAC passengers are guaranteed travel.
